Death of Oil Painting

These works are probably my last works in oil paint, The title is a play on a common theme discussed in art college, is painting dead? A discussion that never has an end

With these works I was stretching the media to breaking point, dissolving it with solvents so the brush marks are on the edge of disintegration. This causes a problem with oil paint where areas of the surface appear mate and dead, the solution is to 'oil in', glazing the work until the paint is brought back to life. Some of these works took many layers of 'oiling in' and it was at this point I realized that I had taken oil paint as far as I could, the search started for something new....
